Experience the Hill of Uisneach

The Hill of Uisneach

Although it stands just 596ft above sea level, the summit of the Hill of Uisneach commands extensive panoramic views over Ireland’s central plain. On a clear day, no less than twenty counties are visible on the horizon. In every direction hills and mountains animate a vista where green melts into blue, hinting at seas and complete encirclement.

Just as it is difficult to match the view from the summit of the Hill, it is also difficult to quantify Uisneach’s remarkable history and its role in Irish culture and identity. The unique sense of character and feeling found at Uisneach means that the Hill remains for so many, the true spiritual centre of Ireland.

Tours & Events

Our pre-booked Public tours are a great way of getting out into nature and learning about the mythology, history, archaeology and built heritage that has been sewn into the Hill over past millennia’s. It’s an enjoyable afternoon spent with old and new friends, alike.

We offer Bespoke Private Tours at a time and date that suits. Every tour is with one of our trained local guides, specialising in the chosen tour subject. Focusing on the subject, the tour is relaxed and not rushed, taking in the heritage that pertains to the Hill and surrounding areas.

Our Celtic Calendar Tours are a great way of re-engaging with our ancient past. We mark the important days on the old Irish Celtic Calendar with a tour created around the information and traditions that have been handed down.

Visitors Centre

Our Visitors Centre is a sympathetically restored Irish cottage, nestled into the foot of the Hill; where the door is always open and the kettle is always on. Our outdoor seated courtyard is a great place to relax after your tour. It is from here all tours of the Hill begin and where Tea and Coffee is served afterwards.

We also have a purpose-built Audio-Visual Room that hosts talks, musical events and intimate evenings. In front of the Visitors Centre and surrounded by a natural meadow is our outdoor stage, where we also host many different types of gatherings and events.

Courses & Workshops

Art and the art of connecting with the land is a favourite with our mindfulness guests. Treated to fresh air and wide-open landscapes, yoga and the practice of drawing, painting, or printing-making is a great way of relaxing the mind and rewarding the soul with personal achievements.

Our foraging walks will lead you through a landscape untouched for millennia, hunting high and hunting low discovering the treasures that are often passed by unnoticed! Learn of the uses, the cures, the jewels that line the paths we walk; learn of the medicinal flora that our ancestors would have used and enjoy the fruits of the walk-in our meadow, out in the open.

Our Team Building Days are a great way to soak up the quiet spaces on offer on the Hill. Get out in the open air, without the distractions of traffic, the hustle and bustle of the office environment and reconnect with oneself and colleagues.
